Jackson Death and Media War

July 7, 2009 pochp 2 comments

Even the foundations of newsprint itself were shaken by the death of Michael Jackson. New media and tabloids started reaping cash while the mainstream press was saddled with the hard job of finding out which reports are true. “This is random people throwing things up against the wall to see what sticks,” Campbell Brown tells Broadcasting & Cable. “There’s all kinds of misinformation out there.”
YouTube, iTunes, and TMZ also profited from the incident and trustworthy Jackson sources found themselves lucky with more jobs.
What a crazy world.

SC Serial Killer Shot Dead

The SC serial killer is dead:

‘The man shot to death by North Carolina police early today was the serial killer who had terrorized a rural South Carolina county, police say. Tests on his gun confirmed that it was the firearm used in the crime spree, which saw five people shot dead in less than a week, the Charlotte Observer reports. “We have him,” says a South Carolina law-enforcement official. “He’s our serial killer.”‘ Sources: Charlotte Observer, Associated Press

This was what happened earlier:

‘North Carolina police have shot and killed a man who may have been the shooter responsible for five deaths in a nearby South Carolina town, the Gaffney Ledger reports. Members of the 100-member task force combing through Cherokee County, SC, visited the crime scene in neighboring Gaston County, NC. “We saw evidence they needed to know about,” a Gaston cop tells CNN.
‘Gaston police responding to a robbery found a house occupied by two residents and an “acquaintance.” The man first provided false identification, and a real ID revealed an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The man then pulled a gun and fired on police, who returned fire and killed him. One officer was injured but has been released from the hospital. A car outside the home matches the description of the car used by the Gaffney killer.’ Sources: Gaffney Ledger, CNN

This perpetrator caught my interest because his attacks were random and careless.
That probably means that his motives would be hard to unravel and I hope that the investigators would do just that.
This is the typical profile of a ’serial killer’ from Wikipedia:

‘A serial killer is a person who murders usually three or more people over a period of more than 30 days with a “cooling off” period between each murder, whose motivation for killing is largely based on psychological gratification. Often a sexual element is involved with the killings. The murders may have been attempted or completed in a similar fashion and the victims may have had something in common, for example occupation, race, appearance, gender, or age group.’
