Who is Julian Assange?

I tried to find out just what his political belief is but it seems no one knows just yet. I found out instead that there’s a debate whether he’s just on an ‘ego trip’ or not. And the most backward info I dug out about him was that the Police in Australia first came across him while following an “audacious” attack on Nasa’s computer in 1989. Wikileaks isn’t just rocking the political world. It’s even shifting the Media game.

‘After the New York Times published stories based on the WikiLeaks’ Iraq war logs in October next to a tough profile of the organization’s founder, the paper’s public editor concluded that the paper had taken a “reputational risk in doing business with WikiLeaks, though it has inoculated itself somewhat by reporting independently on the organization.”

‘But that independent reporting got the paper left out of getting advance access to the latest round of leaked cables, despite being originally told that it would get them, New York Times Editor Bill Keller told POLITICO…’Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1110/45706.html#ixzz16p4O8Meq

But Gary Goldhammer’s article is titled Transparency without Judgment is Gossip, not Journalism. Assange could face Espionage Act charges too.

‘Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. said the Justice Department andPentagon are conducting “an active, ongoing criminal investigation.” Others familiar with the probe said the FBI is examining everyone who came into possession of the documents, including those who gave the materials to WikiLeaks and also the organization itself. No charges are imminent, the sources said, and it is unclear whether any will be brought…’ Details:

Assange’s Next Target: Corporate Corruption

‘In a rare interview, Assange tells Forbes that the release of Pentagon and State Department documents are just the beginning. His next target: big business.

‘Early next year, Julian Assange says, a major American bank will suddenly find itself turned inside out. Tens of thousands of its internal documents will be exposed on Wikileaks.org with no polite requests for executives’ response or other forewarnings. The data dump will lay bare the finance firm’s secrets on the Web for every customer, every competitor, every regulator to examine and pass judgment on…’

Ditch Vitamiin D or Extra Calcium

Experts say they’re not necessary.

‘The very high levels of vitamin D that are often recommended by doctors and testing laboratories — and can be achieved only by taking supplements — are unnecessary and could be harmful, an expert committee says. It also concludes that calcium supplements are not needed.

‘The group said most people have adequate amounts of vitamin D in their blood supplied by their diets and natural sources like sunshine, the committee says in a report that is to be released on Tuesday.

“For most people, taking extra calcium and vitamin D supplements is not indicated,” said Dr. Clifford J. Rosen, a member of the panel and anosteoporosis expert at the Maine Medical Center Research Institute…’ Details: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/30/health/30vitamin.html?_r=1&hp

Thanks for the reference to Vit D and Calcium. I wish they’d make up their minds! Do I need these vits or not for my bones – or am I doing some other damage?? I become incensed that there is no conclusive data! There is a whole whack of seniors being given the big lecture – does anyone know what they are talking about? This is ridiculous.

      Hi Dipper,
There are really lots of confusing medical issues but I tend to believe negative sides like this. I also read somewhere that Vit D is useless too if you don’t get sun exposure. Thanks.
