Using Killer Robots in Warfare

Do you think that’s fair or humane? It’s just like humans vs. robots (computers) in Chess — humans have no chance because robots do not ‘tire’ with unlimited power supply

thesun-JUDGEMENT_DAY__1679510a‘At this very moment, researchers around the world – including in the United States – are working to develop fully autonomous war machines: killer robots. This is not science fiction. It is a real and powerful threat to humanity.

‘Killer robots would act without human reason and compassion in the battlefield. These weapons would destroy the last safeguard against human rights abuse – a human’s ability to use common sense, reason, and compassion and to choose not to fire, or to disobey illegal orders.

‘Sign the petition, and tell President Obama to stop the threat of killer robots now, before it’s too late…’

Here’s the sample of the letter:

Mr. President:

I urge you to take every possible action to block the development and creation of fully autonomous weapons, or “killer robots.” The use of these weapons would not be consistent with international humanitarian law and could increase the risks of death or injury to civilians during armed conflict.

We urgently need a pre-emptive prohibition on their development and use. I look to you to champion this important cause.

The Real Emergency Network
Try if ePACT would work better than Twitter

ePACT is the emergency network. Protect and connect your family, organization and community during any crisis by using this online communication and emergency preparedness system.

With ePACT, users build networks of family, friends and organizations, store and exchange critical information, and access communication tools for use before, during and after a crisis. ePACT is a one-of-a-kind network, better preparing users for any emergency. This includes a localized issue (a family member is injured and needs help); a community-wide crisis (floods force evacuations in a neighbourhood); or large-scale disaster (an earthquake impacts large areas of our province).

More Deaths of Religious Bloggers Demanded
‘BANGLADESH police fired live rounds in fierce clashes with Islamists demanding the execution of bloggers they accuse of blasphemy.

‘Two people were shot dead by police in the northwestern town of Palashbari, and two others died elsewhere, police said.

‘Parts of the capital Dhaka were turned into a battlefield as thousands of protesters attacked police with bricks and sticks in front of the national mosque. Officers there retaliated with rubber bullets and tear gas.

‘The country’s 12 Islamic parties called the protests after Friday prayers in nearly half a million mosques nationwide, demanding the execution of bloggers whom they say blasphemed Islam and the Prophet Mohammed…’

The Bitcoin ATM Now Available
This ATM takes dollars and funds your account

‘”It’s even easier than just using a regular ATM,” says Harvey, 33, who demonstrated the device to CNET this weekend at the Free State Project’s annual Liberty Forum. “You could probably do it in about five seconds. The thing that would take the longest would be the bill validator taking in the dollar.”

‘Harvey and Matt Whitlock are partners in a New Hampshire-based venture, Lamassu Bitcoin Advisors, that’s hoping to commercialize the ATM by selling to retail businesses, especially ones that also want to accept the decentralized alternative currency from customers…’

Don’t Get Hacked with QR Codes
QR Codes are not as harmless as it seems
‘Over our four-weekstudy, our disingenuous flyers were scanned by 225 individuals who subsequently visited the associated websites. Our survey results suggest that curiosity is the largest motivating factor for scanning QR codes. In our small surveillance experiment, we observed that 85% of those who scanned a QR code subsequently visited the associated URL…’
